Purpose

Unlike traditional startup events, this initiative focuses on technological seeds at the pre- and early-foundation stages, with the mission of fostering organic collaboration among stakeholders from industry, government, and academia.

The event followed the format outlined below:

  • CONNECTING
    Strengthening collaboration among leading players in the deep-tech industry to advance deep-tech business

    • Researchers × CXO candidates, CXO candidates × Startups
    • Startups × Corporations, Corporations × Academia
    • Public sector × Private companies, Financial institutions × Private companies, etc.
  • SESSION
    Top leaders from Japan and other countries engaged in in-depth discussions on the latest trends and challenges in deep-tech business from their unique perspectives

    • Main sessions featuring top leaders and experts from both Japan and overseas
    • Sub-sessions focused on specific industrial domains such as medical and healthcare, agri-food, biotech drug discovery, digital, space, and climate
  • SHOWCASE
    Approximately 500 technology seeds from universities and research institutions across the country gathered to present their potential through elevator pitches.

    • We provided a platform for direct dialogue with investors and business corporations, promoting new partnerships and fundraising.
    • Supported commercializing seeds that will shape the industries of the future.

    In line with the three objectives mentioned above, the following events were held:

    Main Sessions Renowned VCs and deep tech entrepreneurs from Japan and abroad took the stage.
    Sector-Specific Sessions In-depth exploration of five key fields: medical, biotech, agri-tech, frontier tech, and climate tech.
    Side Events Small-group, exclusive sessions offering in-depth insights into fundraising strategies and key points in VC investment decisions.
    Reception Parties Approximately 200 participants, including business corporations, startups, domestic and international VCs, researchers and university affiliates, along with government officials attended these gatherings to network.
    TECH SEEDS MEETUP Limited to 300 participants, this casual networking opportunity was provided for those who had an interest in founding or joining a management team.

    Glimpse From The Venue

    The main session began with a talk featuring three founders and capitalists from Japan’s leading top-tier VCs, titled “Japan’s Top-Tier VCs on the Deep Tech Ecosystem: 20 Years of Growth and Future Challenges.”

    It was a session that reflected on the past 20 years while also conveying a sense of hope for the future.

    Another session titled “The Nautical Chart of Deep Tech Unicorns: Real Stories of Challenges and Breakthroughs-powered by Beyond Next Ventures” was moderated by Tomoko Namba. The highlight of this session was the candid dialogue between Ms. Namba and the founders of promising deep tech startups, often referred to as “next unicorns.”

    The venue was so packed that some attendees had to stand, creating an atmosphere filled with excitement and energy.

    In addition, the venue was lively with various sessions, including talks by renowned international venture capitalists in English, sessions by government officials involved in startup policy, and pitches featuring cutting-edge technologies.

    The matching booths were particularly busy, with constant use throughout the event—highlighting the strong demand for these kinds of close, interactive networking opportunities.

    Event Outcome

    The TECHNIUM Global Conference 2025 adopted an invitation-only, closed format that created a space where speakers and participants could engage in an honest and open dialogue, which set the event apart from conventional startup gatherings.

    In particular, the 1-on-1 meetings arranged through pre-event matching and the sub-sessions established for each specialized field enabled participants to build practical networks and gather information aligned with their specific interests—resulting in a high level of satisfaction.
