2025.08.22

Beyond Next Ventures Inc. (Chuo-ku, Tokyo; CEO / Managing Partner: Tsuyoshi Ito) is pleased to announce our investment in the seed round of Yaqumo Inc. (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Kazuhiro Nakashoji).Yaqumo raised JPY 700 million in this round to advance its lead program in pediatric ophthalmology.

In addition, Yaqumo has been awarded a multi-billion-yen grant under NEDO’s “Research and Development Project of the Enhanced Infrastructures for Post‑5G Information and Communication Systems / Development of Middleware for the Industrialization of Quantum Computers” a major funding initiative open to competitive application.

This NEDO grant program is part of the Japanese government’s long-term strategic effort to establish foundational technologies for the industrialization of quantum computing. Yaqumo’s selection reflects the government’s strong confidence in the company’s technology and its future potential.

About Yaqumo CORPORATION

Yaqumo Corporation is a quantum‐computing startup spun out of the Takahashi Laboratory at Kyoto University and the Omori Laboratory at the Institute for Molecular Science. The company is focused on developing neutral‐atom quantum computers—an approach that promises to scale to large qubit counts and support more flexible architecture designs than competing platforms. By harnessing advanced atom‐control techniques, Yaqumo aims to tackle long-standing challenges in error correction and computation speed. The company now plans to develop a prototype fault-tolerant quantum computer (FTQC) using ytterbium atoms by fiscal year 2027.

Background of the Investment

Quantum computing is a next-generation technology expected to drive industrial innovation. Among the various approaches, the neutral atom method stands out for its scalability and future potential. Beyond Next Ventures highly values Yaqumo’s cutting-edge technology and its strong collaborative framework with Kyoto University and the Institute for Molecular Science, and has decided to invest to support the company’s growth and the creation of a quantum industry.

Comment from Beyond Next Ventures

Tsuyoshi Ito (CEO / Managing Partner) and Hiroyuki Kageyama
Neutral-atom architectures have risen in recent years as a top contender for building practical quantum computers. However, efforts to produce a truly functional system remain in an early, highly competitive phase—an area where Japan’s scientific excellence can prevail. From before the company’s founding, we have partnered closely with the team around the shared goal of establishing a world-leading quantum industry in Japan. We’re thrilled to take on this monumental challenge together with such an outstanding group of our country’s foremost experts. Beyond Next Ventures will spare no effort in supporting them until a genuinely operational quantum computer that transforms the world becomes a reality.
