Why We Invested in Volt14

Volt14 is an innovative battery chemistry startup pushing the frontiers of what Lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries can do. Over the last few years, the Li-ion battery industry has made some progress in adoption of Silicon in anodes to increase energy density. However, the presence of Silicon on anodes introduces a trade-off between increasing energy density and reduction in a cell’s cycle life. This has limited the industry from fully exploiting the benefits of Silicon anodes. Volt14 breaks this trade-off with its proprietary technology that allows for a significant boost in Silicon content while maintaining performance stability and cost effectiveness.

Volt14’s Achievements So Far

The company has been engaging with multiple battery cell companies for the adoption of its silicon-rich anode products for their next-generation battery cell products. Volt14 has also developed an in-house cylindrical EV-format battery cell that demonstrates state-of-the-art energy density using its silicon anode product. Such cells have applications in consumer electronics, electric vehicles, and other industries.

Raised Funds & Investment Partners

In this pre-Series A funding round, the company has raised $1.87 million. These funds will enable the firm to strengthen its team and scale up the manufacturing of anodes. We are pleased to co-invest alongside Blume Ventures (lead investor), Spectrum Impact, Supermorpheus, and existing investor Cocoon Capital.
